Child Leanring To Swim

Here’s how we do things

Not all swim schools are the same, and at the Aquatic Academy we know how important it is that you find the right environment and teaching for your child. Lessons here are safe, structured and supportive.

With some of the smallest class sizes in Cardiff you will see progress and smiles. There are three children in Wave One, four children in Wave Two and Three - and Five children in all other Wave classes.

Due to current government guidelines - we are not able to invite spectators (parents) poolside. Parents are asked to bring children dressed ready for their swimming lessons. This means wearing bathers with either a hooded towel or other warm outer garment to wear on arrival and exit of the poolhall after lessons.

Our instructors are some of the most experienced around and are committed to developing your child’s swimming into a life-saving skill as well as a hobby. This matters to us as much as it does to you.

We follow the Learn to Swim Wales, teaching plan, and believe in the power of fun-filled learning. It’s how children develop into confident, competent swimmers. It’s what makes them, and you, look forward to their next swimming lesson.

We have all the questions

How many children are in each lesson?

Wave One (our beginners class) has four children in each class, and the teacher is in the water to support the children's swimming development. There are only six children in all other Wave classes and teachers are in the water to support our swimmers until Wave Four.

What age can my child start group lessons?

If they are under five years old and haven’t had swimming lessons before, we reccomend they complete an adult and child course before moving on to Wave One (group) lessons.

Do the teachers get into the water too?

Yes we provide that bit of extra support and the technical demonstrations that the children need and our teachers are in the water until Wave Four. Wave Five onwards, the teachers are on poolside and will give demonstrations in the pool when needed.

How long are the lessons?

All lessons are for thirty minutes.

Can parents sit by the pool?

Yes, there’s plenty of seating directly on poolside for parents to stay and enjoy the children's lessons.

When and where are the lessons?

Our lessons are Saturdays at Howell’s School in Cardiff.

How long are the courses?

The January 2020 course is for thirteen weeks, starting Saturday Janauary 11th.
